Elizabethan Braids and Plaits
It was quite hard to find a Elizabethan portrait which incorporated braids/plaits that you could see but I have finally found one. There is two braids on the top of the head and one on each side of the head wrapped around the buns. The hair has a fluffy/crimped texture to it that you can see at the front of the head. The hair is parted down the middle with a jewel on. Their are not very many of plaits/braids in the Elizabethan portraits as it was mostly the peasants who would wear them as it would keep their hair off their faces, and peasants could not afford portraits for themselves.
